New Website Combines Social Networking With Insider Beauty Knowledge

PR Log (Press Release) – Feb 09, 2010 – Seattle, Washington- It’s time for fashion-conscious women to join together to help themselves find the best products to fit their lifestyles and their budgets, according to the editors of MyShimmer.com.

MyShimmer.com is a new website created by women for women; actively reaching out to beauty companies worldwide to get coverage of products that sometimes haven’t even hit the store shelves. What makes MyShimmer.com unique, however, is the fact that it gives social networking a twist, allowing users to share their own beauty knowledge with other women all over the world.

“Although there are many social networking sites out there, there aren’t that many that focus on discovering beauty,” said Seattle’s own Emily Tse, one of the editors of MyShimmer.com. “We all have Facebook or blogs, but those accounts are filled with friends from work, from school, people we don’t know, and some people who don’t really care what they put on their faces. Our goal is to unite women who are cosmetic conscious so they can help each other reap the best benefits of the beauty world.”

The MyShimmer.com social networking platform takes users beyond a simple profile and forum, users have actual profiles that connect to their blogs and video channels. Some videos provided include actual makeup tutorials while others are product reviews.

MyShimmer.com also offers a Super Shimz Program. The “Super Shimz” is a group of users on YouTube and Blogspot with sizeable crowds of followers, having a combined subscription of over 295,000, and access to a wide range of age, income, and ethnic groups all over the internet. These vloggers and bloggers have been hand-selected by the site’s editors based on their personality, look, style, ability to communicate, loyalty of customer base and number of subscribers/video views.

“To be a reviewer on MyShimmer, all you have to do is have a video channel on YouTube with over 2,000 subscribers,” Tse explained. “We want you to really focus on beauty but don’t let the required number of subscribers deter you from trying to become a reviewer for us—sometimes we see videos from promising up-and-coming reviewers and we give them the chance to work with us because of their talent. This isn’t a numbers game, it is all about helping each other find the best products on the market.”

“Without a site like MyShimmer.com, women are forced to rely on what television and the beauty magazines tell them and sometimes those things aren’t accurate,” Tse said. “We’re going to bridge that gap. I think we will revolutionize the way people think about beauty.”
